Information
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Fombrauge gives up expressive scents of Black Forest cake, blackberry compote and Morello cherries with touches of plum preserves, spice box and potpourri. Full-bodied with a firm, velvety texture and plenty of freshness, all that rich, black fruit delivers a long, spice-sparked finish.
Winemaking
The grand vin of the estate, the Château Fombrauge 2016 was aged for 16 months in new barrels (40%) and barrels of one previous wine (60%). A Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion signed Bernard Magrez.
Story
The history of Fombrauge is linked to 3 families, the Canolle, the Dumas, and the Taffard. It is in 1466 that Jacques de Canolle, first Lord of Fombrauge, buys the property. Dumas de Fombrauge puts into practice, often empirically, very modern techniques for the time in the selection of parcels, encépagement, work on the vine, and vinification. All of these practices will be successful, including commercial success. In the 18th century, the wines made by Dumas de Fombrauge are mainly sold in England, Holland and Germany. At the time, the property of Fombrauge was part of the 10 crus Saint-Emilion and had a certain notoriety. In 1999, Fombrauge was acquired by Bernard Magrez, who set up in the spring of 1999 a renovation and reorganization plan for the estate (garden, winery, vineyard).
