Winemaking
"Querceto" Vernaccia di San Gimignano, 2019 - light and elegant white dry Italian wine made from Vernaccia grapes. The production areas that grow the harvest for this wine are located in the sub-region of San Gimignano (Tuscany). On average, the yield per hectare is 60 hectoliters (about 20,000 bottles of wine). The grapes were harvested by hand, the berries were separated from the ridges and delicately pressed. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks continued for 8 days at 20°C. Then the wine is aged on the lees for 2 months to increase the complexity and richness of the bouquet. After that, it is drained from the sediment, filtered, bottled and aged for 12 months in storage before being sold.
Story
Castello di Querceto is a legendary estate in the Tuscany region with a long, rich history behind it. The construction of the castle itself dates back to the 16th century. This splendid piece of architecture, originally owned by the Longbards, retains its medieval image to this day.
Since 1897, the estate has been owned by the François family, who have devoted their lives to winemaking for several generations. Already in 1911, they managed to win the prestigious international prize for oenology.
The estate is surrounded by landscapes of stunning beauty. The vineyards are located in a hilly area at an altitude of 470 meters above sea level. The vines are planted over 60 hectares, 10 hectares are reserved for olive groves. The François family specializes primarily in the cultivation of red grape varieties, led by Sangiovese. Relatively small areas are reserved for white varieties - Trebbiano Toscano, Chardonnay, Vernaccia and Malvasia.
